The Owner

My name is Leslie Wade, and I was born and raised on the island of Nevis. I spent most of my life working for the United Nations in Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa, but have always remained rooted on the island where I was born.

People often ask what makes Nevis so special. For me, it's something deeper than its beaches, the mountain, or year-round sunshine. It's the island's enduring sense of community.

Nevis is a place where people are still shaped and sheltered by the collective. Where a neighbor, a church elder, or a shopkeeper feels comfortable gently correcting you because everyone shares a responsibility for one another.

I love this small island.

Nevis teaches us that life doesn't have to be hurried to be meaningful. It invites us to slow down, to notice, to connect, and to find joy in simple things: a conversation on the roadside, the sound of tree frogs at dusk, the scent of mangoes ripening in the garden, or the sight of green vervet monkeys crossing a quiet lane.
